At Craig Elementary School, parents, students and staff share the common goal of continuing the school's tradition of student success.
Craig Elementary houses one of the most culturally diverse student populations in the district. Craig's English as a Second Language program, comprising 14 percent of the student population, serves students who speak one of 24 different languages and come from 28 foreign countries. At least an additional 10 percent of students speak a second language at home.
In addition to teaching the board approved curriculum great care is taken in teaching our students expected behaviors in order to create a safe and structured learning environment. These building wide expectations are all aligned with our five Core Values and can be found in our Parent/Student Handbook. Our Craig Core Values are: Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Caring, and Empathy.
Craig was established in 1966. Craig School is located on Craig Road, which was named for the Craig family of farmers and property owners in the area. The two Craig sons, Jesse and James, fought on opposite sides of the Civil War. Craig's opening, along with other Parkway construction, was delayed due to a sheet metal strike. To complicate matters, more students enrolled than were anticipated, so several classes were housed across the street from the school at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
