Energy Efficiency and Conservation

Parkway continually strives to improve energy efficiency within schools and buildings while also creating awareness for the need to conserve what we use.  The district's comprehensive energy management program began in 1992.  This program focuses on improving employee behavior, reducing consumption for periods when energy is not needed, upgrading school mechanical equipment, and improving building envelopes.  Upgrades are funded in large part through the support of the Parkway community by passing bond issues.

In order to identify buildings that are efficient and those buildings that are in need of improvement, Parkway utilizes an energy accounting software similar to GreenQuest. 

Since the program's inception calculations have demonstrated that Parkway has saved:

• Over $800,000 per year in utility costs
• Over 1.2 million MMBtu
• Over 130,000 equivalent metric tons of CO2
  • Equivalent to (either / or):
    • Removing over 24,000 passenger cars from the road for one year
    • 3.5 million tree seedlings grown for 10 years
