You can help a child succeed in school through the OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program!
Parkway School District is proud to be part of the OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program. This program pairs an older adult volunteer with an elementary student for individual help developing the child’s reading and language skills. Besides improving reading skills, the program builds self-esteem and a positive attitude towards learning. The program focus’s mainly on students in kindergarten through third grade and your time commitment with your student is one hour a week throughout the school year. The volunteer does not need any previous teaching experience. You need only bring your enthusiasm, patience and compassion to be a friend and role model. Prospective tutors need to complete a 10 hour training class and background check. Regular tutor meetings provide the help, support and enrichment ideas for working with your student.
