Margaret, a fourth-grader at Pierremont Elementary, says her favorite chess piece is the queen because it is so powerful. The title of queen also reflects Margaret’s position in chess today. Though she has been playing the game for just two years, she ranks in the top three of all U.S. girl players under 10. Because of that ranking, she has been selected to represent the United States next fall in the world championships in Vietnam, where more than 100 countries will attend. Margaret will play in the “under-10-years-old” girl section.
